As outlined in the City of Montreal’s Transportation Plan, the McGill Street redevelopment project re-establishes the street as a prestigious artery delineating Old-Montreal; it also allows for the cohabitation of several modes of transportation, namely pedestrians, bicycles and public transit. The new streetscape on McGill street also allows for the creation of terraces directly on the sidewalk, between the pedestrian corridor abutting the buildings and the security corridor along the street.
As part of the McGill Street redevelopment project, which aimed among other things to give the street back to pedestrians, an outdoor street terrace pilot project was launched in the summer of 2007. This project will continue during the summer of 2008, after which time it will be decided whether to allow the exploitation of terraces or permanently or not.
For more information regarding these terraces, please consult the Guide d’aménagement (only available in French) available under “Publications”.
