As a major gateway to Montréal located at the western extremity of the Quartier, this major artery has been redeveloped to become a Montréal landmark. A colonnade of pillars has been constructed on the street's median that encases a stylized representation of the flags of the world accentuated by dramatic lighting. The University Colonnade, located between de la Gauchetière and Saint-Jacques streets, lends scale and dimension to the area while offering a gracious and international welcome to visitors.

To complete this redevelopment initiative and to enhance the pedestrian experience, sidewalks were widened, new trees were planted and a unique line of urban furniture was installed on each side of the street.
